A revised land-use plan for northeastern Frederick County approved by the board of supervisors designates no additional acreage for extractive mining.
The 4-3 vote was a win for numerous Clear Brook-area residents who have been outspoken about not wanting more mining where they live, but it doesn’t guarantee against the possibility of more mining.
The version of the Northeast Land Use Plan (NELUP) OK’d by the supervisors blends “common elements” of two proposals (A and B), but keeps some properties owned by Carmeuse Lime and Stone, specifically where the company wants to open a new quarry north of Brucetown Road, in land-use categories designated for industrial, heavy industrial, and warehousing instead of extractive mining.
